How to verify a redacted PDF Use Omitly's Verify feature to check the embedded, tamper-evident audit report on any redacted PDF — the verdict, the document hashes and the seal — entirely on your own machine. How Omitly removes text permanently A black box over text is not redaction — the words survive underneath. Omitly deletes the underlying text and image data in each redacted region, then re-checks that nothing recoverable is left. What the redaction certificate proves Tamper-evident proof that the redacted content is absent from this document and the file is unchanged since sealing — integrity, not signer identity, and not a legal determination. Where does your PDF go? Nowhere. Omitly opens, redacts and verifies PDFs on your own machine — the document you are working on is never uploaded and never sent to a server.
Getting started
- Install Omitly on macOS Download, open and run Omitly on your Mac — Apple silicon or Intel. It installs like any other Mac app and works fully for 14 days before you add a licence.
- Install Omitly on Windows Download and run Omitly on Windows, including the "isn't commonly downloaded" warning Windows shows for new releases and how to check the installer is genuinely ours.
- System requirements What Omitly needs to run — a supported operating system, some disk space, and nothing else. No account, no internet connection to redact.
- Your first redaction Open a PDF, mark what to remove, and produce a redacted copy with its audit report — start to finish in a few minutes, all on your machine.
- Omitly plans: Personal and Pro What's included in each Omitly plan, and how licensing works — a one-time Pro licence with no subscription lock-in.
- Verify your download with a checksum A checksum is a fingerprint of a file. Compare your Omitly installer against the published SHA256SUMS file to confirm the download arrived intact and unaltered.
Redacting
- Select text, areas and pages to redact The ways to mark content for removal in Omitly — dragging over a region, letting Omitly find personal info automatically, or redacting whole pages.
- How Omitly removes text permanently A black box over text is not redaction — the words survive underneath. Omitly deletes the underlying text and image data in each redacted region, then re-checks that nothing recoverable is left.
- Review your redactions before saving Redactions are applied when you click Apply & verify and can't be undone afterwards on the output. Here's how to check every mark before you commit.
- Make scanned pages searchable Omitly 5.0 can add an invisible, searchable text layer to scanned pages after redaction. What it does, what it can get wrong, and what the certificate says about it.

- How to check what your PDF is carrying A step-by-step guide to inspecting a PDF's metadata — author, dates, comments and embedded-image EXIF — before you send the file. No Omitly required.
Licensing & billing
- Activate your Omitly licence Turn a trial into a licensed copy by importing your licence file. It verifies locally — no account, and no ongoing connection required.
- Move your licence to another computer An Omitly licence is for a person, not a machine — moving to a new computer or reimaging an old one needs nothing from us.
- How Omitly updates work Omitly checks for updates automatically at launch and lets you check manually too. Updates carry the signed app, never your documents.
